Located in the Needles district of Canyonlands National Park, the Slickrock Foot Trail is quite possibly the most fun hike we did during our Utah road trip with kids.
The Delicate Arch Trail is the most popular hike in Arches National Park for good reason. The hike to Delicate Arch is scenic and enjoyable, and the up-close views of this highly photogenic arch are pretty incredible.
For visitors to Moab, UT it seems like Canyonlands National Park plays second fiddle to Arches National Park. We get it; Arches is a very special place, but the scenery in Canyonlands NP is incredible and is worth a trip if you have the time.
While we may not have done all the hikes in Capitol Reef National Park, we are going out on a limb and calling this hike the best hike in Capitol Reef National Park. If you’ve followed us for a while, you know that we’ve done a fair bit of hiking in some of the most incredible places around the world (both with and without our kids) so we have a pretty good idea what makes a superb hike!
With Utah’s “Mighty 5” national parks, it’s got to be hard for smaller parks to get some attention. Don’t let that stop you though! Goblin Valley State Park is so much fun for kids and a must visit if you are in the area.

After a month long road trip around the SE USA with our two kids, aged 3 & 5, we finished our trip with one final day in Nashville, TN before going home. We were amazed at the energy of this vibrant music city and had a great time walking around enjoying the vibe.
Trendy Asheville, NC is known for its vibrant arts scene, complete with art galleries and an exciting culinary scene. But we were drawn to Asheville as a base for some amazing family friendly outdoor activities, in fact hiking is one of the best things to do near Asheville.
To be honest, we didn’t know much about Wilmington, North Carolina at the time we were planning our trip. We simply wanted to break up the 8 hour drive from Charleston with kids and before hiking in Shenandoah National Park with kids. Wilmington was around the halfway point and was on the ocean, so we decided to give it a shot, and we are so glad we did. Wilmington turned out to be one of our favorite places in the whole SE USA road trip!
Charleston, South Carolina is a wonderful place to spend a few days with small kids. It has the perfect mix of family-friendly activities. You will love strolling the beautiful streets and parks of Charleston, eating amazing southern food and enjoying the natural beauty & wildlife of the area.
