Seeing orangutans in the wild was one of the main reasons we planned our family trip to Indonesia, and spending five days in Bukit Lawang with kids turned out to be one of the most memorable parts of our time in Sumatra. Bukit Lawang is best known as a gateway to Gunung Leuser National Park, where families can head into the jungle in search of Sumatran orangutans and other wildlife.
