Most people travel to Chiang Mai to enjoy outdoor activities in its beautiful setting. We were really hoping to go for a Chiang Mai bike tour in the countryside, but we weren’t sure if we could find a tour operator with cycling equipment for kids (ours were 3 & 5 years old at the time).
Bringing our kids to a Chiang Mai elephant sanctuary was a top priority for our visit to Chiang Mai with kids. Sadly, there are many elephant parks in Thailand which mistreat the animals, so we did a lot of research to find an ethical elephant camp.
Ayutthaya is the former capital of Siam and was once one of the world’s most important cities. It was nearly destroyed by a Burmese attack in 1767, but we are fortunate that enough temple ruins remain to give us a feel for what this incredible city was like in its prime.
We visited Aytuthaya, Thailand with our two kids, aged 3 & 5, in December. We were a little worried about the temples being too boring for them, but they never complained once.
Kanchanaburi, Thailand is best known as the home of The Bridge over the River Kwai, but we were drawn there by the amazing outdoor activities. In three full days, we were able to do our three favorite outdoor activities with our kids (aged 3 & 5); hiking, biking and kayaking.
The Blue Ridge Parkway is one of America’s most beautiful drives. If you are planning a Blue Ridge Parkway road trip with your kids, take a break from driving and enjoy these family-friendly hikes. In fact, getting out of the car and hiking Blue Ridge Parkway will will exponentially improve your enjoyment of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
After a month long road trip around the SE USA with our two kids, aged 3 & 5, we finished our trip with one final day in Nashville, TN before going home. We were amazed at the energy of this vibrant music city and had a great time walking around enjoying the vibe.
Trendy Asheville, NC is known for its vibrant arts scene, complete with art galleries and an exciting culinary scene. But we were drawn to Asheville as a base for some amazing family friendly outdoor activities, in fact hiking is one of the best things to do near Asheville.
To be honest, we didn’t know much about Wilmington, North Carolina at the time we were planning our trip. We simply wanted to break up the 8 hour drive from Charleston with kids and before hiking in Shenandoah National Park with kids. Wilmington was around the halfway point and was on the ocean, so we decided to give it a shot, and we are so glad we did. Wilmington turned out to be one of our favorite places in the whole SE USA road trip!
Charleston, South Carolina is a wonderful place to spend a few days with small kids. It has the perfect mix of family-friendly activities. You will love strolling the beautiful streets and parks of Charleston, eating amazing southern food and enjoying the natural beauty & wildlife of the area.
