After a month long road trip around the SE USA with our two kids, aged 3 & 5, we finished our trip with one final day in Nashville, TN before going home. We were amazed at the energy of this vibrant music city and had a great time walking around enjoying the vibe.
Trendy Asheville, NC is known for its vibrant arts scene, complete with art galleries and an exciting culinary scene. But we were drawn to Asheville as a base for some amazing family friendly outdoor activities, in fact hiking is one of the best things to do near Asheville.
To be honest, we didn’t know much about Wilmington, North Carolina at the time we were planning our trip. We simply wanted to break up the 8 hour drive from Charleston with kids and before hiking in Shenandoah National Park with kids. Wilmington was around the halfway point and was on the ocean, so we decided to give it a shot, and we are so glad we did. Wilmington turned out to be one of our favorite places in the whole SE USA road trip!
Charleston, South Carolina is a wonderful place to spend a few days with small kids. It has the perfect mix of family-friendly activities. You will love strolling the beautiful streets and parks of Charleston, eating amazing southern food and enjoying the natural beauty & wildlife of the area.
We are professional travelers, but as small business owners and parents of two small kids (aged 2 & 5), we often find ourselves without enough time to properly prepare for our trips. Thankfully our years of travel experience has taught us to adapt and plan on the fly. That said, there were a handful of things we wish we had known before going to Magic Kingdom Orlando with our kids.
Savannah is known for its antebellum architecture, beautiful parks, horse-drawn carriages and its majestic oak trees, draped romantically in Spanish moss. We arrived in Savannah with our two kids (aged 2 & 5) after 3 exhausting days in Orlando. We wanted to see the historic side of Savannah, but after the recent theme park madness, we also desperately craved some nature. Savannah delivered very nicely on both accounts.
Family vacations to the Disney theme parks are a big deal. A trip to Disney will be one of the most special trips your family will take together. We want to help make your visit the best it can be, so during our recent two day visit to Magic Kingdom Orlando, we paid close attention to what do people bring to Disney to make their days more comfortable and enjoyable.
Gatlinburg, TN sits at the doorstep of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the most visited national park in the United States. While Gatlinburg and nearby Pigeon Forge are packed with attractions for tourists, we wanted to spend most of our time in the park. Here is how we spent three fun and active days in Gatlinburg with our two kids (aged 3 & 5):
After spending the previous 10 days along the US Atlantic Coast with our kids, we had spent too much time in cities, so we were looking forward to some Shenandoah National Park hiking. We love to go hiking with our kids (aged nearly 3 and 5 years old) and were excited to see what this famous national park had to offer.
Like many 5 year olds, our daughter is all about princesses. She watches endless Disney princess movies, wears princess dresses and tiaras every day, has pretend royal weddings (to her Dad, her brother, the dogs…. anyone who will participate), reads books, etc, etc, etc. When we decided to do a SE USA road trip, we knew we had to visit Orlando to let her be a princess at Disney World for a day.
