The Watchman Trail is one of those great family-friendly Zion National Park hikes providing some amazing views of Zion Canyon without a tremendous amount of work. The trail follows along the side of a small canyon on the east side of the park. The trail is mostly in the open which results in increasingly impressive views the higher you get.
We visited Capitol Reef National Park with kids in early-May (our two kids were 5 & 3 years old at the time). We must admit that prior to deciding to go on a family road trip to Utah, we had never heard of Capitol Reef NP. We were well aware of Utah’s other four super-star national parks, so we were intrigued to find out they had a fifth.
Chimney Rock is an impressive, towering natural spire which rises over 300 feet above the road. The Chimney Rock Loop takes you to the top of a mesa and allows hikers a view looking down on Chimney Rock as well as the amazing scenery up and down the valley. It’s an amazing hike which reminded us a lot of the Fairyland Loop in Bryce Canyon (one of our favorite hikes in Utah).
Hickman Bridge is one of the most popular hikes in Capitol Reef National Park and is a good introduction to the park. This easy, scenic hike begins by following the Fremont River before starting to climb along the side of a large hill. The views of the surrounding cliffs and valley get amazing pretty quickly.
We visited Bryce Canyon National Park with kids in mid-April (our two kids were aged 3 & 5 at the time). Our family loves being active while enjoying the beauty of nature, so Bryce Canyon was a perfect outdoor destination for us. We spent 5 days hiking with kids and enjoying all the beauty this natural wonder has to offer.
There is nowhere on earth like Arches National Park. Filled with world famous monuments like the Delicate Arch, Arches is home to some great walks through some amazing scenery. Thankfully there are plenty of choices for everyone to choose from. These are our five favorite easy walks in Arches National Park:
Capitol Gorge Trail is one of those hikes which is just naturally fun for the kids. It’s flat, it’s sandy, and the towering canyon walls keep them pinned in tightly so they can run wild and not get too far. It’s one of the best hikes in Capitol Reef for families.
Located in the Needles district of Canyonlands National Park, the Slickrock Foot Trail is quite possibly the most fun hike we did during our Utah road trip with kids.
The Delicate Arch Trail is the most popular hike in Arches National Park for good reason. The hike to Delicate Arch is scenic and enjoyable, and the up-close views of this highly photogenic arch are pretty incredible.
For visitors to Moab, UT it seems like Canyonlands National Park plays second fiddle to Arches National Park. We get it; Arches is a very special place, but the scenery in Canyonlands NP is incredible and is worth a trip if you have the time.
